If a swimmer placed 2nd or 3rd in any "A" Meet: Choose a maximum of 3 events as follows: Up to 2 of the 4 stroke events PLUS the Individual Medley (IM). If IM is not chosen, then a maximum of 2 events may be swum. However, for the remainder of the season, if a stroke event is chosen that the swimmer placed 2nd or 3rd in at an A meet, it will be "unofficial". Furthermore, swimmers are limited to a maximum of 1 "unofficial" event per B meet.
If a swimmer placed 1st in any "A" Meet: Choose a maximum of 2 events as follows: Up to 1 “unofficial” event among the 4 stroke events PLUS the Individual Medley (IM). If IM is not chosen, then the swimmer may only swim 1 “unofficial” event.
Note that a swimmer’s situation may change during the season. For example, they may not swim in every A Meet, or place 1st, 2nd or 3rd every time they do. However, once they have earned one of these ribbons, the restrictions remain in the place for the remainder of the season.
During a “B” Meet, events will be swum in the order of Free, Back, Breast, Fly, IM. Unofficial swims will be swum immediately following the completion all official heats of that same stroke and distance. Unofficial swimmers will be grouped in mixed gender and age heats. IM will be swum as the first event during Week 4 in order to give the IM-only swimmers a chance to swim early once during the season.
